A Creature No Mare Can Kill by TurboSolid A Creature No Mare Can Kill by TurboSolid
Upon it sat a shape, black-mantled, huge and threatening. A crown of steel he bore, but between rim and robe naught was there to see, save only a deadly gleam of eyes: the Lord of the Nazgūl. To the air he had returned, summoning his steed ere the darkness failed, and now he was come again, bringing ruin, turning hope to despair, and victory to death. A great black mace he wielded." - The Battle of Pelennor Fields, Return of the King, p.115

Wow, this one took a lot longer than I expected. I was trying to reach a finer level of detail, with everything from Changling Queen's helmet thingy to the Fellbeast's face. The story behind the dragon, as I have imagined, is that the broach around its neck renders it in complete control of the Queen, and it's horn serves as sort of a second weapon for her. I was really inspired by :iconziom05: and all his detail and epicness that I though I would try my hand at that sort of thing. I like how it turned out, and I definitely would like to make more.

inb4 iconTwilightisMagic and I have a page long discussion on LoTR.

I find myself listing all the fanfictions that could be brought upon by this image alone, it wouldn't even have to follow the story line of Lord of the Rings. Now... on topic!

Vision: It's great, we have a very opposing queen who is ridding her Fellbeast. I imagine there she would be, swooping down upon somepony, intimidating and deadly as can be. Vision is 4 1/2.

Originality: Artwork like this is very common, while I love it and cannot complain about it, to call it original would be a lie. It is very lovely, but it isn't independent as it fits in a common group of artwork. Originality is 3.

Technique: One of my favorite thing about Brony artwork is that you look at this without knowing any of the origins of this you'd say, "What is that? Who could possibly come up with something so malevolent?" Then you'd learn it was from a cartoon about magical ponies who spend their time learning about friendship. That's why I love the serious and almost dark work out there, it contradicts what others would think about the show, it doesn't make sense! Technique is a 5.

Impact: Again Queen Chrysalis is intimidating in this picture. She rules the skies and strikes fear in the heart of mare's and stallions alike. The creature no mare can kill. Everything in here is a darker shade, except the few things like her magic, eyes, and mouth. The dark and light contrast gives her gloomy figure some form to it. Just like an actual Nazgul, except instead of the silver armor, it's just the bright green that's focused on her head, which draws the eye slightly (Again, similar to the Nazqul armor.) The description, I love how it's a quote. I know, the critique is supposed to be about the picture, but the quote helps with the eerie feel. It makes it feel all dramatic, like I see somepony hunched over, quill barely held by magic, while he/she scribblers the last moments before all hope is lost and the Queen descends upon them. I also love quotes, so... yeah. Impact is 4 1/2

Too bad you'd never see something like that in the show; it'd be a nice inversion of the usual gender cliches.
